This week’s PGA Tour event is the Greenbrier Classic at the Old White TPC course. Below you will find this week’s fantasy golf rankings, One and Done picks and a few wagers I’ve tossed out there.
Quicken Loans National finishes
Kyle Stanley FINALLY got his win this year. He defeated Charles Howell III on the first playoff hole Sunday afternoon. The win was the second of Stanley’s career and first since 2012.
Although I didn’t bet Stanley to win, I ended the weekend up a few bucks on top 10 (+1400) and top 5 (+3300) bets I threw on Howell. He missed several months with an injury but he’s too good of a player to have odds like that.
Last week’s rankings resulted in 12 of our ranked golfers finishing in 29th place or better, while 7 finished in the top 5! Those 12 performances were:
Rank Player Finish
1 K. Stanley 1 (Won)
4 T. Finau T29
5 R. Fowler T3
7 M. Leishman T5
9 C. Howell III 2
13 K. Bradley T5
14 B. Haas T13
17 B. An T29
18 M. Laird T3
20 S. Kang T5
24 B. Horschel T26
25 D. Lee T22
Greenbrier Classic | Breakdown
Aside from maybe about 12 names, if you took a quick glimpse at this week’s playing field you’d think it was a Web.com Tour event. Not knocking the Web by any means, but when Bill Haas has the second best odds to win, something just ain’t right.
After a complete reconstruction of the golf course from flooding in 2016, the Old White TPC is back to host the Greenbrier once again. The course design and hole layouts were not altered much, if at all, since the Tour last played in 2015. However, new grass was planted on the fairways and greens.
The course is a par 70 so par 4 scoring and gaining strokes tee-to-green will be critical stats to look at. Fairways have historically been “fair”ly easy to hit here, but approach and proximity should be considered as well.
- Defending champ, Danny Lee, has been playing consistently good golf. I’m sure he’ll be popular in DraftKings contests so probably a better cash game option rather than gpp.
- Phil’s back! And I will be fading him pretty much in all aspects of fantasy golf.
- I will likely have a good amount of Streelman, Webb, Chucky III, Keegan and Finau spread throughout my lineups.
- A few longshot plays I may consider rostering are Mac Hughes, Ricky Barnes and Matt Jones.
