How Not To Twitter Beef
On Friday night, Steve Elkington decided to start a twitter beef with Rory McIlroy. Before I get into the details, there are two things everyone should know about twitter beefing.
One, don’t do it with a person who is world famous, if you are not. Way too many followers to beat you down.
Two, if you are going to throw an insult or burn, make sure you don’t misspell anything in the tweet.
Shots Fired
On Friday, Elkington threw the first twitter punch. He suggested Rory was a “bored” golfer without Tiger Woods, and Rory wouldn’t win more than 4 majors. He also said Rory was fine with his “100mil in the bank”.
Rory is so bored playiing golf…without Tiger the threshold is prolly 4 majors with 100mill in bank

Rory quickly made sure Elkington “knew” he saw hjis tweet.
More like 200mil… not bad for a "bored" 28 year old… plenty more where that came from. pic.twitter.com/R2nigEaee7

Now you would think a guy, who is lesser know on the PGA tour than most, and just got burned on twitter by one of the best would end the argument there. Right? Right? Nope!
New you were a money guy
Jack won 18 and never mentioned his total cash..
It was 5 mill https://t.co/4vTFyUpY7p— Steve Elkington (@elkpga) June 17, 2017
And there it was. The final try at becoming twitter famous and knocking down the champion, Rory. Those types of jabs don’t land Mr. Elkington when you misspell or flat out use a word the wrong way. It’s “knew” not “new”.
As in ” I knew twitter beefing with Rory was a bad idea.”
Again, Rory took a 9 iron upside Elkington’s head about the tweet, and Rory’s followers didn’t let up.
That's why jack designed 100's of golf courses… and it's knew… mustn't have taught grammar in the 50's….

Although Rory clearly destroyed Elkington in this fight, it is nice to see a 50 something use twitter for its intended purpose. To insult someone. Fact is, Elkington has officially become internet famous and maybe that is not such a bad thing. Considering he isn’t really all that famous for golf.
Lesson learned Mr. Elkington.
