John Daly wins first tourney in 13 years

Everyone loves John Daly or at least I think everyone should. Because, when John Daly won his first tournament since 2004, he celebrated with a Champagne Shower and that’s electric. It was truly “must see TV.”

The 51-year-old captured the PGA Tour Champions’ Insperity Invitational on Sunday. In true Daly fashion, he ALMOST blew it because the putting games still appears to be a point of frustration. In fact, he bogeyed the last three holes of the match. But, Daly was able to edge out a victory over Kenny Perry and Tommy Armour by one stroke. He was then greeted with a big kiss by his young fiancee Anna Cladakis and a champagne shower.

Can we talk about those stars-and-stripes pants Daly was rocking? Come on, John. I don’t know if the Champions’s tour can handle your flair for style.

If you’re ever having a bad day, remember John Daly used to smoke 40 cigarettes a day, and once drank 514 gallons of Diet Coke per year.

ESPN: “It wasn’t pretty at the end,” Daly said, “but I got it done and that’s all that matters.”

Daly, 51, had not won on tour since the PGA Tour’s 2004 Buick Invitational. He hasn’t exactly torn up the 50-and-over circuit since debuting at The Woodlands a year ago.

Wearing American flag pants, Daly shot a 3-under 69 to finish at 14-under 202 and earned $322,500. He opened with rounds of 68 and 65 to take a one-stroke lead over Kenny Perry into the final round.

Perry shot a 69, and Tommy Armour III had a 67.”
