The posts have been drawn and the early odds have been released for the 2017 Kentucky Derby. Aside from that, it’s been a relatively quite news week for the Running of the Roses. Classic Empire is, as aspected, the early favorite with 4-1 odds, having drawn the 14th post position. As I said in my blog and on our podcast, I’m still nervous over the foot abscess that Classic Empire had. So, seeing Always Dreaming (post position 5) with 5-1 odds isn’t surprising. I was a bit surprised to see McCracken come in with 5-1 odds out of the 15 post. Eddie will be excited about that one.
I’m still confident in my pick of Irish War Cry, the more I’ve read about this horse, the more I like him. No horse has ever won the Kentucky Derby out of post 17. That just means it’s time for Irish War Cry to make history!
