This year’s US Open is hosted by Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, NY. The 7,445-yard course is the fourth longest par 70 course in major championship history.
When constructing daily fantasy golf lineups, many industry “experts” are hyping up driving distance because of the length of the course. Although distance will play somewhat of a factor, hitting fairways is most important with the knee-high fescue that lurks. Plus, the word around town is that the course is playing firm and fast. Meaning a 280-yard drive can easily roll out to the 300 yards mark, especially if there is wind behind the player.
My Picks
I will be focusing in on straight drivers of the ball, along with good approach and around the green golfers. I really like Jason Day this week. He shows up in big tournaments and has an under-the-radar great season going thus far. He may not win (it’s hard to not pick Dustin Johnson there) but he’ll be in contention on Sunday afternoon.
Some other golfers I’m high on this week from all ranges of DraftKings pricing, include: Branden Grace, Bryson DeChambeau, Tommy Fleetwood, Louis Oosty, Webb Simpson, Francesco Molinari, Ian Poulter, Jimmy Walker, Steve Stricker, Emiliano Grillo and my favorite deep sleeper of the week…Trey Mullinax.

The “Course Stats Rank” incorporates a wide range of player statistics, each individually weighted. This range includes the past 4, 8, 12, 24, 50 and 100 rounds played.
This week’s weighted course statistics for the US Open include:
- Strokes Gained: Tee to Green
- Strokes Gained: Approach
- Bogey Avoidance
- Birdie or Better
- Strokes Gained: Par 4s
“Current Form Rank” is derived from the average number of Strokes Gained: Total per tournament played this season.
The “Prestige Rank” column was back-tested and has consistently shown positive results. “Prestige Rank” is derived from a combination of current Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) and Vegas odds to win the week’s event.
The “PAS Power Index” is generated by calculating and combining the categories mentioned above: course stats (weighted at 45%), current form (weighted at 25%),and prestige rank (weighted at 30%).
