If you want to take a quarterback who had a really good rookie season and give him a chance to grow by leaps and bounds his sophomore season? Go out and get him an above average veteran receiver to throw the ball to. That’s exactly what the Eagles did! If you’re an eagle fan or a fantasy football player, do NOT sleep on the Carson Wentz / Alshon Jeffery connection.
I’ve always liked Jeffery. Alas the rest of the Point After Show crew, especially the “Fantasy Football Advantage” don’t agree with me. I think the addition of Jeffery to the Eagles will provide Carson Wentz with a desperately needed reliable receiver and a security blanket. The year-over-year transformation of the Eagles’ wide reciever depth chart is alarming. Wentz will also have Torrey Smith to sling the ball to as well. This also relegates Jordan Matthews to the #3 receiver slot, where he belongs.
EPSN: “Just moments into the Philadelphia Eagles‘ first full-squad practice of training camp, Carson Wentz dropped back and unloaded a 40-plus-yard pass down the middle of field. As it descended, Alshon Jeffery sped into the frame and nonchalantly made the grab in stride.
With that, the new quarterback-receiver combo was off and running.
The highlight came later in the session during team drills, when Jeffery elevated to snatch a Wentz offering deep along the right sideline while bracketed by a pair of defenders. Jeffery said afterward that his message to Wentz has been to just throw it in his area and give him a chance to go get it. Wentz is listening to his veteran receiver, it appears.”
Carson Wentz to ESPN: “Having a guy like that, it really makes a quarterback play a lot more confidently.”
Shout out to Carson’s dogs! They look like a good by and good girl.
