4 Round Mock Draft
The core of every great fantasy team is built in the first four rounds of every draft. To illustrate what could happen in certain situations, here is a mock draft from the #1, #4, #8 and #12 position. I will give you a brief description of why I decided to pick the guys I did. Hope this helps you. Please be advised this draft is based on PPR format scoring. Special thanks to Fantasy Pros Draft Simulator
#1 Position
The first overall pick is extremely desirable this year. You get one of the stud running backs guaranteed. The toughest decision is what to do with the 24th pick. I decided to go running back heavy here with the obvious David Johnson pick and then parlaying him with Todd Gurley as my RB2. I followed up my back to back RBs with who I deemed, best available WRs for both rounds.
#4 Position
Due to the potential suspension of Ezekiel Elliott he appears to be dropping. I was able to get him in the 4th spot in this draft. I would have been fine with Antonio Brown here as well. In the second round I could have went Gurley again but with 11 WRs off the board in the first 20 picks I knew I had to grab the last guy I felt comfortable with as a WR1 for my team. Much like my first draft, with the #1 overall pick, I filled my RB2 and WR2 up in rounds 3 and 4.
#8 Position
I did this 2 different ways to show you what it looks like if you take Mike Evans vs. LeSean McCoy with the 8 pick if both are available. I am very big on having a solid RB1 in place after round 1. I’m not completely down on the idea of having Gurley as my RB1 with Evans as my first round pick. However, I expect bigger upside with McCoy/Murray vs. Gurley/Crowell. Comparing that to the upside from Evans/Fitz vs. Jeffrey/Allen, I would rather roll with McCoy as my 1st overall pick.
#12 Position
By far this is the toughest position for me. You have to really throw caution to the wind here. It looks like Jordy Nelson in the consensus pick for the 12 position. This leaves you with few RBs to choose from that have a big enough sample as an RB1. It was between Murray, Miller and Gurley for me with the #13 pick. Over the last 4 years Murray has been an RB1 three times. Miller did it twice, but never in Houston, and Gurley only once in two seasons. Rounded out my 3rd and 4th round like I always do filling in my RB2 and WR2.
I hope you enjoyed this look at my mock drafts in some of the key positions. Let me know in the comments below what you liked or what you would have done differently. Also let other readers know if you see any reaches being made in these mock drafts from any position.
