St Jude Classic | Breakdown
TPC Southwind lies on a former dairy farm just south of Memphis. The par 70 course will play 7,244 yards this week. Every par 4 measures over 400 yards besides one, making par 4 scoring “udder-ly” important here if players are going to put up low numbers.
The par 3 11th hole I’ll call the poor man’s 17th at TPC Sawgrass. The short-iron tee shot to an island green resembles the more famous par 3 seen at THE PLAYERS a few weeks ago.
Southwind is a ball striker’s course. Narrow fairways with many water hazards will require precision placement. The last three St. Jude winners led the field in either strokes gained approach or strokes gained putting. These are two key stats to consider this week, as well as, strokes gained off the tee.
