NFL Rookie Quarterbacks making waves

The double Ds, Deshone Kizer and Deshaun Watson are two NFL rookie quarterbacks that are making waves this off season.

Let’s start with Deshaun Watson

The buzz around the league this week is that Watson “won’t be the next Dak Prescott.” Good. I’m okay with that. Because, although Prescott had a breakout rookie season, I don’t think we should utilizing him as a standard of success… yet. Let’s see what Dak’s sophmore season brings. If you remember, RGIII  had a killer rookie season too. Also, Prescott had the advantage of playing behind the best offensive line in the league.

Watson does however have an offense that features DeAndre Hopkins, one of the most dynamic receivers in the league. If Nuk the Bomb has a good season, Watson will reap the benefits. He’s also going to have a healthy Will Fuller to sling the ball to. Not only is Fuller a #NotreDameGuy, he was on pace for a monster rookie season, until injuries struck.

As far as NFL rookie quarterbacks go, if Watson manages to beat out Tom Savage for the starting position in Houston, he will definitely be my favorite to win the offensive rookie of the year this season. He simply has too many weapons around him to not be successful.

Meanwhile, DeShone Kizer is in Cleveland

There is an all out battle royal in Cleveland to determine the starting quarterback. Cody Kessler, Kevin Hogan and Brock Osweiler are fighting it out and all hoping to earn the starting quarterback position. But, I think the NFL rookie quarterbacks will again triumph in this scenario. After revamping the offense, the Browns are going to want to get their first-round pick, DeShone Kizer into the lineup.

Kizer is a raw talent, with only two seasons of college football under his belt, but he seems to be making his movie to the head of the pack. Cleveland.com has suggested frequently that Kizer is “on the fast track” to earning the starting position. Browns head coach, Hue Jackson has been proclaiming that Kizer is “a quick study.” While, I have no doubt that Kizer will leapfrog Hogan and Osweiler, Kessler prove to be an obstacle. A week 1 start might not be likely for Kizer. I’d actually like to see him worked in behind Kessler to start the season, eventually taking over the starting role.

Deshone Kizer is near the top of the 2017 NFL rookie quarterbacks list, but he’s a long term investment for Cleveland. They’re playing the long game here, there is no need to prematurely ruin him.
