We all know that I’m a #NotreDameGuy. I bleed blue and gold (well, sometimes I bleed green, if it’s a special occasion). But, I laughed right out loud when I heard DeShone Kizer described himself as the love child of Tom Brady and Cam Newton.
USA Today: “No one else can do what I can do. And I’ve truly figured out in this (draft) process, if I can maximize all my potential in every aspect of the game – this is bold – I do have the ability to be the greatest quarterback to ever play. Imagine taking (Tom) Brady’s intellect and Brady’s preparation and putting it on a guy with Cam Newton’s body. Why can’t I be the greatest? The only thing stopping me from it is me. That’s what’s driving me now.”
A few things.
- I kind of fucking hate Deshone Kizer. As a #NotreDameGuy, I feel that I’m entitled to feel that way. He sort of screwed Notre Dame over by leaving early. It sounds like we’re going to be OK. But, what if we’re not? If he was any other player on any other team, I’d be fine with his decision to leave early. Don’t leave me with questions at Quarterback, dude.
- On the other hand, I love Deshone Kizer too. It was amazing when he came into that game against Virginia and threw the game winning touchdown to Will Fuller. That’s a moment that I will never forget. I was at my buddy Carm’s wedding and I missed the Best Man’s speech to see that play. Sorry Carm. #NotreDameGuy priorities.
To put it lightly, I’m torn here.
I sort of respect the statement. That takes guts. You had better live up to that hype if you’re going to make such an absolutely savage quote.
The good thing that I’m hearing about Deshone is that he’s Smart. They say his body is built for football and that he’s durable. Brian Kelly said if someone can develop him, he will be the best quarterback to come out of this draft.
The bad thing that I’m hearing about Deshone is that he’s immature. It’s hard to argue with that point after he just compared himself to the smartest quarterback of all time and one of the most impressive physical specimens to ever play quarterback in the NFL. Brian Kelly also said that he’s immature, doesn’t make good decisions in key moments of the game and that he’s not ready for the NFL.
Never forget…
