Here are this week’s top sports stories from Ed in the Sports News Report.
Shaq believes Earth is flat
You can add Shaquille O’Neal to the list of celebrity conspiracy theorists. The NBA Hall of Fame center is supporting current NBA star, Kyrie Irving, in the theory that the Earth is flat. Shaq made this clear on his most recent podcast episode, arguing against the scientific fact of Earth being round. He argued, “The Earth is flat…I drive from Florida to California all the time, and it’s flat to me. I do not go up and down at a 360-degree angle…” New episodes of O’Neal’s podcast, “Shaq: I Am a Retard,” are released on Mondays.
Melvin Ingram raps
San Diego Chargers’ linebacker, Melvin Ingram, who raps under the name “SupaMel” is preparing to release a new mixtape. Ingram told reporters that rapping is much more than just a hobby to him, and that his style is different than other NFL rappers. Besides the title, “Franchise Tag,” not much else is known about SupaMel’s mixtape, other than that it will really, really, really suck.
Yamaguchi tweets Kerrigan
Prior to Nancy Kerrigan’s debut performance on Dancing with the Stars Monday night, fellow Olympian, Kristi Yamaguchi, sent a good-luck tweet to Kerrigan which read: “@NancyAKerrigan I can’t wait to see you grace that ballroom floor, break a leg! #DWTS”
Social media couldn’t help but see the irony in the tweet. The knee-shattering attack Kerrigan endured 23 years ago remains as the biggest scandal in figure skating history. But Kerrigan brushed off the negative attention surrounding Yamaguchi’s words, and has since tweeted: “At least @kristiyamaguchi gave me a heads up, unlike some people I know #CoughCough @TonyaHarding.”
Boy believes he was Lou Gehrig in previous life
“The Boy Who Knew Too Much” is a new memoir written by Cathy Byrd, a woman who believes her son has been reincarnated from Lou Gehrig. According to reports, two-year-old Christian Haupt insists that he had once been a tall baseball player. Christian also identified Gehrig’s mother in one photograph and made note of the falling out friendship he once had with baseball legend, Babe Ruth, in another.
Reporters attempted to contact little Jimmy Simms, a 3-year-old from Delaware who believes he was once Babe Ruth in a previous life. The plan was to reunite the two old pals, Ruth and Gehrig. However, little Jimmy was unable to be located at the time as he was out drinking whiskey and banging prostitutes.
Manti Te’o becomes a Saint
And finally. It was announced Wednesday that free agent linebacker, Manti Te’o, has agreed to a two-year contract with the New Orleans Saints. At least that’s what the Saints are making him believe…
