Glennon Defines Inflation
Inflation is defined as a general increase in prices and fall in the purchasing value of money. The NFL owners are currently experiencing inflation at the quarterback position. You don’t believe me? How else do you explain Mike Glennon market value demands? I only use him, because he is the most recent, in a long line of quarterbacks being paid for nothing.
Osweiler Thought Us Nothing
Yahoo’s Charles Robinson reports, “multiple NFL sources” anticipate free agent Mike Glennon to land a deal worth $14-$15 million per year. What? Are you kidding me? With all due respect to Mike Glennon, why the hell would an NFL owner pay that kind of money? Do not tell me because he is a quarterback. Football is a team sport. It takes 11 guys on both sides of the ball to win games. I do understand that the quarterback position may be the most important. I also know there are only a handful that deserve the mega contracts. To put what I’m saying into perspective lets look at what Glennon has done in his first four years in the league.
Glennon has played in Tampa Bay since being drafted in the 3rd round by the Buccaneers in 2013. In four seasons he only played in 20 total games. He has a career quarterback rating of under 85. He has thrown for 30 touchdowns to go along with 15 interceptions and 4100 yards. I’m not saying these are bad numbers, but he also holds a career record of 5-11. To prove even more that Tampa Bay didn’t believe they had a franchise quarterback, in 2015 they used their #1 overall pick to get Jameis Winston. Yes, the same Jameis Winston that came with off the field concerns, and was no Andrew Luck coming out of the draft.
Glennon Compared to Others
Let’s compare what Glennon is expected to fetch, on the free agent stock market, to a few other no names in the NFL. Again, keep in mind that Glennon is expecting to get $14-$15 million per year.

So, Mike Glennon is asking to make approximately $6M per year less than, arguably the greatest quarterback to ever play football. Simply because of the position he plays he wants to be paid similar to Julio Jones, Antonio Brown, Le’Veon Bell and JJ Watt. Four of the most explosive game changers at their respective positions.
Now, to be fair, I understand it’s not Glennon’s fault. As a matter of fact, I don’t blame him one bit. I’m already starting to look at quarterback camps for my 3 year old to attend.
