Mouthing off with Stroudrounder…Canelo vs. Chavez

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr.

Okay big shots, you want to bet on sports? Go ahead. Want to be a BIG time gambler, bet on yourself.  That’s what Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. are going to be doing May 6, 2017.  The main event at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas will be the setting for the showdown between these two at a catch weight of 164.5 lbs. Canelo is coming off a hand injury, where he fractured his right thumb against Liam Smith this past September. Chavez Jr. is coming into this fight with back to back 10 round decision wins so Julio is looking to make a statement at the hands of Alvarez.

Now getting back to my main point.  Both fighters agreed, shook hands on it and made it official that it will be a winner take all fight.  Loser has to turn over his entire purse to the winner.  In all my years of watching boxing I have never heard of such a thing. These two veterans are adding a little more fuel to the fire.  As of right now I have not discovered what the amounts of each purse would be but I would go out on a limb and say that it might be one of the biggest wagers in the history of the sport.

Since this fight is at a catch weight, which means they are meeting in the middle of their two different weight classes, there will be a $1 Million/pound penalty.  Now depending upon the athletic commission they would usually deduct a percentage of the purse but it was put in their contracts that this will be the penalty if either fighter is over the 164.5 lb limit.

Canelo I feel has the advantage all around in this fight.  He has fought better fighters in the last four years than Chavez Jr. has fought in his 14 years of boxing.  In my most humble opinion, Canelo is going to win the fight by the 8th round.  In addition to winning the bet, he should go on to fight the winner of Gennady Gennadyevich Golovkin and Danny Jacobs.  If Canelo looks good at 164 lbs then I see no problem with him unifying all the belts with either Golovkin or Jacobs at 160.

I suggest you go out and buy an Amazon Firestick or do what you need to do to be able to watch Canelo and Chavez Jr. on May 6th, but first you need to watch GGG vs. Jacobs March 18th.

Remember this is my opinion and if I want yours, I’ll give it to you!
