It’s going to happen… maybe? McGregor and Mayweather. The Double Champ vs. Money MayWeather. I’d like to remind you that our resident MMA guy, Tommy, said this would NEVER happen. While, our resident Irish Guy, ME, said it would. I know nothing about MMA or Boxing. I do however, love Conor McGregor; mainly because he has red hair and an Irish accent.
It seems like there are tons of reports circling around about this “deal.”
The Irish Sun: The bombshell agreement is yet to be formally signed, but the Crumlin brawler will go toe-to-toe with the undefeated 39-year-old boxing great.
CONOR McGregor and Floyd Mayweather have finally reached a multi-million dollar deal to fight, the Irish Sun has learned.
After months of intense negotiations, representatives for the Notorious have thrashed out a money-spinning contract with ‘Money’ Mayweather’s camp in recent days.
Although the bombshell agreement is yet to be formally signed because of a third party hold-up, it means the 28-year-old Crumlin brawler will go toe-to-toe with the undefeated 39-year-old boxing great.
Hard hitting, yet, not exactly true journalism by the Irish Sun. We Irish like to tell stories. No Irishman will ever let the truth get in the way of a good story. The mothership, ESPN, on the other hand seems optimistic, yet unsure of the fight.
ESPN: Prior to Mayweather’s post on Tuesday, NSAC chairman Anthony Marnell had confirmed to ESPN that the commission had been made aware of active negotiations between the two camps, but he said the fight still faces several challenges. “There is a lot of real stuff going on,” Marnell said. “It still seems like a long shot, but when there is a lot of money involved, people tend to figure it out. There are a lot of cooks in the kitchen, but I’m not sure if we’re going to eat.
“The Nevada Athletic Commission, in my experience, has always been well-briefed by all parties on an event or potential event that may take place in Las Vegas. We are aware of conversations and information that has been disclosed and not disclosed in the media. Whether these conversations will get to a point that a fight happens, I can’t tell you.”
The two sides have publicly discussed — and in some cases refuted — the idea of a potential fight for nearly a year.
So, let’s see what the fighters themselves have to say. That will clear things up for us. Right?
Okay. So, it’s not happening. But, Conor came to Las Vegas to negotiate the contract (and do community service for throwing a bottle at Dias)? Clearly this is not happening. Because, Mayweather is happily retired.
Wait… So, you’re telling me there’s a chance!
