This week’s beer choice, Iron City Light a.k.a. I.C. Light, comes to you from my home state of Pennsylvania.
Originating in 1861, the Pittsburgh Brewing Company has produced a wide variety of legendary brews. The lightly hopped, premium crisp taste of I.C. Light is a staple amongst the hard-working citizens of the Steel City. You haven’t experienced a true authentic Pittsburgh tailgate unless I.C. Light has been served.
The Pittsburgh Steelers suffered on Sunday night, losing to the New England Patriots in a bout for the NFL AFC Championship. Whether you’re a fan of the Steelers or the Green Bay Packers, who were defeated by the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC Championship, these losses are often followed by disappointment and misery.
“Win or lose, we always booze.” A slogan from my years playing high school sports that I still find relevant today. This six-word phrase continues to be a constant reminder to celebrate the highs and build on the lows, whatever the outcome of a game or season might be. I am a firm believer in, “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” No other beer complements the state of being frustrated yet gratified quite like a frosted mug of I.C. Light.
Now, stop whining and drink up. Recognize your team’s success while tossing a few back with fellow fans. I recommend chugging the first two I.C. Lights if you care to enjoy a third and fourth…it isn’t exactly palate-friendly.
Until next week, cheers!
